Kath Hawkey is the founder of Capital Tutoring Services and is passionate about teaching and learning. She believes that all children have a right to quality education and the opportunity to succeed within the education system. Kath is a qualified early childhood teacher that has worked in various primary schools in different education systems for the past two decades. She has taught across all grade levels from 3-year-olds to Year 6 and spent 6 months teaching on Christmas Island with children whose families were seeking asylum in Australia. Kath has taught in both remote and rural areas as well as capital cities.

She has extensive experience working with students with an EALD (English as an Additional Language/Dialect) background and teaching foundational skills in Literacy and Numeracy. At various points of her career, Kath has taken on leadership roles within schools, including Assistant Principal positions.

A lifelong learner herself, Kath holds a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education) from Curtin University of Technology and a Master of Religious Education from Notre Dame University. She regularly attends professional learning opportunities from Spelling to Inquiry Learning. Kath has a current WWVP card and has full teaching registration with the Teacher Quality Institute of ACT.

Originally from Western Australia, Kath moved to Canberra in 2016 with her family.
